For Governance Stakeholders

The Centre works with institutions, pension funds, the academic community and others in fostering greater understanding of effective governance practices and in developing strategies and programs that bring stakeholder capitalism and ethical governance to life.

Since its creation, The Centre has helped to educate key players in understanding the importance of sound governance and in developing more effective policies to bring boardrooms and regulatory regimes into the 21st century.

While the roles of regulators, law makers and directors themselves are crucial in establishing effective governance, ultimately its success comes down to individuals and their willingness to hold institutions and their leaders accountable “one consumer, one investor and one voter at a time.” This is a substantial part of what underlies the concept of stakeholder capitalism, a term J. Richard Finlay coined and developed in the 1980s. It is here that the challenge to better governance continues.

The Centre also believes that recent events have provided indisputable proof that free markets cannot operate without an essential foundation of ethics and values, and that governments cannot foster economic progress without a vigorous system of free markets.  To that end, The Centre continues to advance and promote its ideas about capitalism governed by values, which it regards as the only sustainable economic theory for a 21st century global economy.  Over the years, its views have been cited in dozens of books, law journals and scholarly publications.

Today, The Centre works with institutions, pension funds, the academic community and others in fostering greater understanding of effective governance practices and in developing strategies and programs that bring stakeholder capitalism and ethical governance to life.  The Centre has identified a number of knowledge innovators, scholars and social entrepreneurs who share a common mission in bringing principles of ethics and accountability together in ways that advance the lives of individual stakeholders. This global network provides important research capabilities for organizations wishing to associate themselves with leading-edge thinking in how better governance can shape a better shareholder experience.

The Centre also provides its own inspirational voice to groups, seminars and conferences.  For more than 30 years, The Centre’s founder, J. Richard Finlay, has been a sought-after public speaker and lecturer to organizations who value his evocative style, which challenges, excites and more than occasionally has accurately foretold important developments in the evolution of private enterprise and public trust.
